2009 Corte Le Marsure Sauvignon (Venezia Giulia Italy): This Sauvignon Blanc is almost too easy to drink. Not overly grassy, not too acidic this is just clean crisp Northern Italian white wine. The wine is un-oaked with great citrus fruit, a bit of peach and good minerality from the rocky soils. You can enjoy this Sauvignon as a summer sipper or with the most serious of seafood dishes. Pairing Suggestion: Pan Fried Sole, Light Salads
2009 La Sclusa Ribolla Gialla (Colli Orientali del Friuli, Italy) This Jem of an Italian white makes me want to book the first flight back to Italy and sip it on the cliffs of the Mediterranean. The nose almost smells like seawater and fresh shellfish. The palate shows bright citrus and a searing acidity making your mouth instantly crave food.
Pairing Suggestion: Lemon Marinated Anchovies, Frutti di Mare
2009 C.M.S. By Hedges (Columbia Valley Washington) I continue to be impressed by Washington State's offerings in the wine world. This wine is dark purple in color with a nose of black cherry, cassis, with hints of tar, tobacco and sweet vanilla toast. Black cherry and blackberry fruit continue on the palate where you will find dried herbs and licorice. This would be a great one to blind taste one of your "wine snob" friends on. Pairing Suggestion: Lamb Sausage, BBQ
2008 "Blended by Kermit Lynch" Cotes du Rhone Cypress Cuvee (Rhone Valley, France): Kermit Lynch is well known for his fine eye for amazing French Wines. Recently he started blending his own line of wines under the "Blended by Kermit Lynch" label. This 2008 C.D.R. is stylistically similar to a Gigondas. The nose is screaming violets white pepper and wildflower. The palate is balanced with light tannins, bright red fruit and good spice. An everyday drinking wine that definitely over delivers. Pairing Suggestion: Pan Seared Duck Breast, Roasted Quail.
2005 Domaine Saint Prix Bourgogne (Burgundy, France) Burgundy makes the finest Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays in the world. 2005 Was the best vintage that have had in the last two decades. Although this is not the top of the food chain for Burgundian Pinot, it delivers the elegance and finesse that you expect from a fine Burgundy. This is a medium bodied wine with beautiful floral feminine notes backed up by great red fruit and a light bite of mild tannins. Pairing Suggestion: Mac and Cheese with Mushrooms
2010 Elsa Bianchi Malbec (Mendoza Argentina) Historically small amounts of Malbec were used in Bordeaux blends, but Mendoza has done wonders with it as a single varietal. The classic Malbec aromas of ripe plum, blueberry and violets are evident in the nose, with hints of vanilla. The beauty of the Malbec in Argentina is its ability to combine a rich, weighty mouth feel with a soft silkiness normally associated with lighter wines. Elsa Malbec takes the promise of the nose through to the palate, with pleasing fruit that mimics the aroma. The soft, supple palate leads to a lingering finish. Pairing Suggestion: Another great BBQ wine, Venison Chop with a Dried Blueberry Demi Glace
